WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?

This course will equip you with practical MI strategies to strengthen client engagement and trust, support client decision-making and self-sufficiency, reduce provider stress and burnout, and improve resettlement outcomes through evidence-based communication. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions, real-world case scenarios, and expert-led training sessions to refine their skills and apply MI techniques effectively. 


COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the foundational principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI), including its client-centered approach and the importance of engaging in empathetic and flowing conversations to foster client growth. 

  • Apply the core processes of MI—Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning—to establish trust, clarify goals, elicit motivation, and create actionable plans collaboratively.

  • Integrate advanced MI techniques, such as deep listening, strengthening change talk, and offering advice to deepen client engagement and motivation. 

  • Develop and sustain client progress through effective planning, consolidating commitment, supporting transitions, and maintaining long-term change.
