WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?

This introductory course is designed to help service providers develop skills in collecting and reporting programmatic data to funders. Sessions will cover how to select relevant data for collection; how to implement appropriate data collection methods; and how to design, implement, and monitor data collection systems to support reporting and program improvement. The course will also include discussions of specific techniques for designing surveys and facilitating focus groups/interviews. Through hands-on activities, group work, real-world case scenarios, and practical exercises, participants will apply their learning in meaningful ways. 


COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify key data to collect based on reporting requirements, evaluation and learning goals, definitions of project success, and stakeholder needs. 
  • Select appropriate data collection methods—from observation, interviews, and participatory methods—based on indicators, project needs, resources, and staff capacity, using key strategies to ensure effective implementation. 
  • Select appropriate data collection methods—from focus group discussions and surveys—based on indicators, project needs, resources, and staff capacity, using key strategies to ensure effective implementation. 
  • Develop a data management plan to ensure that data is orderly, minimize data cleaning tasks, and maintain adherence to data privacy and protection principles.
