This course is intended for providers who are new to working with interpreters. It is the first of two Switchboard eLearning courses on this topic. Following this course, we recommend you take the Overcoming Challenges in Interpretation course. After completing this module, you will be able to: 

• Define key terms related to interpretation
• Describe the interpreter’s role, including the role of cultural competence in interpretation
• Describe why quality interpretation is important when providing services to limited English proficient (LEP) clients
